Hurst First Responders are also known as H.E.A.R.T. (Hurstpierpoint and Hassocks Emergency Area Response Team).
The Team came into being following a public meeting, which was held in Hurstpierpoint Village in May 2006. This meeting was organised by the Hurstpierpoint Patients Participation Group.
From this meeting H.E.A.R.T was formed with initially 12 volunteers coming forward, willing to undergo the recruitment and training process, then progressing to becoming a Community Responder on successful completion.
The scheme went “live” in September 2006 and the area that we cover is defined by the BN6 postcode boundaries.
The area we cover is quite large and rural, stretching from Streat in the East to Albourne in the West. Our boundary to the North is Burgess Hill and Pyecombe / Clayton to the South. The population in the BN6 area is approximately 21,000 (2001 census).
Below are the Team members and where they are located in the BN6 area.
- Derek (Also Senior Team Leader)
We are currently recruiting for more responders to join and help build upon this existing team. If you are interested in becoming a community First Responder in one of the above areas please contact us using our contact form and you will be contacted to meet for an informal interview with the scheme leader.
Over the past years, Fundraising has played a vital and important part in ensuring the SMS CFRs have the equipment we need to be able to provide the service to our local community.
If it were not for the generous donations from various local organisations and individuals, backed up by our excellent Fundraising Team, we would not have the equipment that we are proud to have today.
Over the past 3 years our gratitude must be extended to:-
- Burgess Hill District Lions
- Hurstpierpoint Charity Shop
- Rotary Club of the Sussex Vale
- Burgess Hill Round Table
- Friends and Neighbours
- Saffron Club
- Hurstpierpoint Parish Council
- St Lawrence Fair
- West Sussex County Council
- Downland Housing Community Fund
- Hassocks Parish Council
- Burgess Hill Rotary Club
- Anonymous Donations / Bequests
- Hurstpierpoint Society
- South Downs Living Magazine
- Info Mags
- Salvation Army
- Co-operative Membership

Our Fundraising Team
We are very fortunate to have the expertise of 2 very experienced fundraisers, whose local knowledge of the area has proved invaluable. However, with any Team, we are always looking for new members to bolster our efforts and help to provide assistance with our fundraising and awareness raising events.
