Lifesaving community support for the City of Brighton &Hove
Community First Responders are a team of life-saving volunteers. Trained and vetted by the South East Coast Ambulance Service, our volunteers make themselves available to respond to 999 calls within a three mile radius of their own homes.
This local response means we can often arrive at the scene of an emergency, in advance of the professional crew, enabling lifesaving treatment to be commenced without delay.
Volunteers carry a medical kit that includes a defibrillator and oxygen, and are despatched to selected 999 calls deemed appropriate by the SECAmb Emergency Operations Control.
The Brighton & Hove scheme was launched in October 2013 and we are actively seeking new volunteers.
We are also raising money to cover our own kit costs and expenses. We would love to hear from you if you can support us.
Volunteer with us
We cover a wide area that encompasses Portslade, Southwick, Hove & Brighton. Because of the congested nature of the roads around the city centre, our volunteers often cover a smaller footprint than our rural colleagues, so we are keen to hear from volunteers from all over our response area. You need to be a driver with a clean driving licence and able to carry a kit bag that is reasonably heavy.
Full training will be provided and kit will be funded via our fundraising activities. You are expected to be able to commit an average of 4 hours a week to booking on call, as well as attending a regular monthly training session.
